The winter holidays are upon us. No matter which seasonal celebrations you observe, here are some tips for keeping holiday fun at the top of your 'to do' lists and ensuring you and your family enjoy a happy, healthy holiday season. Partners highlight in this issue is the American Adacemy of Pediatrics. Family Resource Corner includes holiday gifts supporting a good cause, keeping your child safe on the internet by learning net lingo, identify theft protection for you and your child, a website with read-along stories and songs, and a website with toys for children with special needs. What's New in Research reports the benefits of social interraction on memory and mental acuity as well as test scores! In Tidbits, December is Safe Toys and Gifts Month, with resources and tips for choosing great, safe toys.

– Healthy Lifestyles and New Bright Futures
This Special Edition of 'Fall Offerings" highlight two initiatives that address the health of children and will be of value long after the leaves have fallen. The PTA Healthy Lifestyles initiative, announced in November 2007, introduced two excellent sets of materials to promote healthy lifestyles in your families. Also, in November, the American Adacemy of Pediatrics released the 3rd edition of "Bright Futures: Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children and Adolescents". This edition also emphasizes the importance of partnerships between health professionals and families to ensure childrens good health, and includes attention to children with special health care needs.

Information on opportunities to support children's education and health. Learn more about school wellness policies and councils and how you can participate at your child's school. National Child Health Day is October 1, 2007. Partner highlight in this issue is the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO). Family Resource Corner includes
National Parent teacher Association, School Meal Programs, Women, Infants & Children (WIC), www.Kids.gov- the U.S. Government website for kids, Red Cross safety tips for Halloween, and information about Inclusive Schools. What's New in Research highlights a study on "The Health Benefits of Volunteering". Tidbit notes that The Great American Smoke Out is November 15, 2007.

– The Whys of Risky Teen Behaviors
Insights into the challenges faced by youth during adolescence, including smoking and drinking. Learn more about behavioral risk factors, encouraging healthy behaviors, talking to your teen, etc. Partner highlight in this issue is the National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices. Family Resource Corner includes
Helping teens quit smoking, Safe prom and graduation celebrations, Educating 11-13 year olds about alcohol, and Advertising and media messages. What's New in Research provides information about the influence of alcohol and cigarettes in the media. Tidbit notes that May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
